How to Add a Show More Button in Squarespace

How to Add a Show More Button in Squarespace

If you’ve ever built a long page in Squarespace, you’ve probably hit that point where the content starts to feel… a bit endless. Whether it’s a service page, a case study, a long blog post, or a text-heavy FAQ, visitors can quickly feel overwhelmed. That’s where a Show More button in Squarespace becomes incredibly useful.

In this guide, I’ll show you a simple, free way to fake a show more button using an anchor link. And then, if you want something more polished—like a true show more / show less toggle—I’ll also show you the faster, cleaner and more user-friendly option using my Squarespace Content Reveal Plugin.

Ready? Let’s go.

The Free Method: A Simple Show More Button Using Anchor Links

This trick works in any Squarespace 7.1 site and is perfect when you just want to reveal more content further down the page. It’s not a collapsible toggle—you can reveal the content, but you can’t hide it again—but it’s a great quick win.

Step 1 — Add an Anchor (ID) to the section you want to reveal

  1. Go to the section you want to “show more”.

  2. Go to Edit Section.

  3. Scroll down to Anchor Link

  4. Add text like: showmore (or choose your own)

Squarespace will now recognise this as the anchor #showmore.

Step 2 — Add a button in the section above

In the section above, add a Button Block.

Set the URL link to: #showmore (Or choose your own)

Label it “Show more”.

That’s it! Clicking the button scrolls users directly to the hidden content area.

Good for:

  • Jumping down long pages

  • Quick “read more” scroll links

  • Basic content reveal patterns

Downsides:

  • You can’t hide the content again

  • Not great for clean UX on long pages

  • No “Show less” option

  • No way to shorten the page visually

If all you need to do is skip ahead, this trick works perfectly. But if you want a proper collapsible section, try this…

Improved Squarespace Content Reveal Method

For a real interactive experience—where the content hides, expands, collapses, and reveals smoothly—you’ll want a proper Squarespace show more / show less button.

This is where the Squarespace Content Reveal Plugin comes in:

Instead of just jumping down the page, this plugin gives you:

  • A real collapsible section in Squarespace

  • A proper show more / show less toggle

  • Smooth fade/slide animation

  • Fully hidden content until clicked (great for UX)

  • SEO-safe hidden content (Google still sees it!)

  • Clean code that inherits your site styling

  • The ability to hide any section—text, images, FAQs, galleries, anything

  • A multi-section toggle option

  • A more visual, professional interaction

The free anchor trick can only take you so far. If you need something that actually collapses and re-collapses—smoothly and reliably this plugin does the job.

Why the Premium Plugin Is Worth It

Jump links work… but they don’t tidy your page. The Squarespace Content Reveal Plugin actually improves the visual layout and user experience.

Visitors see a clean, short preview, then tap to reveal more. And—importantly—they can hide it again.

It’s exactly the kind of modern UX we expect on today’s websites.

If you’re building out long pages, service details, FAQ-style content, or anything text-heavy, the difference is massive.

Final Thoughts

If you're only looking for a simple way to jump to more content, the anchor trick works well and takes less than a minute to set up.

But if you want an actual Squarespace show more / show less toggle, cleaner layouts, better user experience, and smooth transitions, the Squarespace Content Reveal Plugin is the perfect solution.

It’s simple, polished, and designed specifically for Squarespace users who want to level up their site layouts.
