New website look for Creative Black Country
Creative Black Country is an incredible organisation delivered by Black Country together CIC. Creative Black Country celebrates creativity and community across the Black Country. Their old website had served them well, but it was ready for a refresh, something that truly reflected their new branding, improved accessibility, and offered visitors a smoother, more enjoyable experience.
I had so much fun working with the Creative Black Country team on this project. From the start, accessibility was a top priority, along with finding creative ways to make the new branding shine online.
The Challenge
Their previous website was starting to feel a little outdated and cluttered, which made it harder for visitors to quickly find what they needed. The team wanted something modern, bold, and easy to navigate — all while keeping their unique creative personality front and centre.
The Solution
I redesigned all of the main pages across the site, bringing their refreshed brand colours and style into every corner of the website. The homepage was completely restructured and condensed to make navigation simple and intuitive — helping visitors get to where they need to be in just a few clicks.
To elevate the user experience, I introduced:
A unique mega menu and secondary navigation for improved usability.
A stylish blog layout with hover effects and clear calls to action.
Flip-over designs and interactive carousels to present content in a more engaging and space-saving way.
A back to top button to make navigating long pages easier.
The Userway accessibility widget, ensuring inclusivity across all devices.
On the technical side, I upgraded the site to Squarespace 7.1, refreshed all page layouts, fixed broken links, embedded Mailchimp forms, and improved on-page SEO to support visibility.
The Result
The final design feels vibrant, creative, and accessible — everything the brand stands for. Visitors can now explore events, projects, and opportunities with ease, while the team has a flexible, modern platform that’s easy to update and maintain.
This project was such a joy to work on — the Creative Black Country team were brilliant collaborators, and I loved helping bring their new look to life.
